Remembering D-Day

You will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41.
The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeat in open battle man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground.
Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned.
The free men of the world are marching together to victory. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle.
We will accept nothing less than full victory.
Good luck, and let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

~Dwight Eisenhower

At 0630 on June 6, 1944 one of the greatest attacks was launched, D-Day witch was part of Operation Overlord. The plan to take Europe back from the Nazis over 100,000 Ally troops landed on five beaches; Gold, Sword, Juno, Omaha, and Utah. Men from all different creeds nationalities banded together to fight and take back Europe from the evil Axis powers. Normandy was the start, the foot hold to get that job done. If they failed Hitler would of possibly used that as a huge piece of propaganda and possibly used that as a launching pad to take England. From there who knows what things could of become of it. Through it all none of the men asked why they were there or what the politics were behind being there. They were there cause they wanted to be there. Then common men came together to do some uncommon things none lesser then practically save the world from tyranny and the evil of the Axis powers. At the end of the day the allies had completed their goal at the cost of over 8,443 killed or wounded. But, the allies had the foot hold they needed from there the went on to eventually take back Europe and in 1945 the the second World War was finally over.

Now 65 years removed from that day the number of veterans from that day is shrinking every year. They sacrificed so much to protect the world from that evil. If someone you know or love is a World War 2 veteran take a moment ask them what they went through. Talk to them and take time to lean how hard it was for them to fight through Europe. Sometime today in you busy day take a moment and reflect on waht these men did for this great country and the world. As always God Speed and God Bless America.
